Duck Race Thanks to all the support we received for the annual Duck Race, this event raised a magnificent £450+ for the Group's funds. Well done to the organisers, the duck sellers and duck purchasers and to the barbecue kitchen brigade who fed the hungry spectators. It was a cracking [or quacking!] event. the competitors... the spectators... the finishing line... Get ready for the Duck Race... Saturday 14 May + the AGM at the Recreation Ground race entry £1 per duck available through members of the Group or from Jackie Oliver & Co [estate agents] Beavers 30th birthday party a group of our Beavers had great fun at the District party held to celebrate 30 years of the Beaver Scouts Group camp + AGM 2015 Bromham SCOUTS WINTER CAMP This year Scouts from both Sections enjoyed a long weekend at Cosgrove. Besides enjoying getting wet, activities included archery, indoor rifle shooting and a 10km hike. In addition, the scouts tried their hand at making pigeon stew and they apparently ate enough cake to fill the Scout Hall! Cubs have a whale of a time at Dino Snores! An excited group of cubs enjoyed a sleepover at the Natural History Museum. Among the activities laid on were a torch-lit trail through the Dinosaurs Gallery, a live science show, creating a dinosaurs t-shirt and after breakfast the next morning, a live animal show. | What we do... As Scouts, we believe in preparing young people with skills for life. Young people in the Scouts take part in an exciting programme of activities from kayaking to climbing. They develop character skills like resilience, initiative and tenacity; employability skills such as leadership, teamwork and problem solving; and practical skills like cooking and first aid. ************************************************************************************** The 2017-18 Group annual report together with the accounts are to be found on the Annual Report page... ************************************************************************************** Clive has been awarded the Silver acorn by the Scout Association in recognition for his long term service to Scouting. An award justly deserved. Clive has now retired from the Group to live in Yorkshire. Disability awareness evening Scouts learnt about various sports which have been adapted for those affected by disability, including skiing. Sign language and bingo for the deaf were also experienced. Come dine with me! Scouts [Centurions] entertain some visitors to experience their culinary skills... Scouts [Centurions] get ready for Halloween! Beavers [Canadians] visit to Towcester Museum This year's Duck Race proved to be another winner! In 2010 the 1st Towcester Scout Group celebrated 100 years of scouting and as part of the centenary celebrations the Group camped at Gilwell, the home of the scouting movement. |
